Cadet Memory Items
The following items are intended for new cadets to review and memorize as part of the basic knowledge required of CAP cadets. The information below represents some of the fundamentals of Civil Air Patrol.
The Cadet Oath
I pledge that I will serve faithfully in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet program, and that I will attend meeting regularly, participate activly in unit activities, obey my officers, wear my uniform properly, and to advance my education and training to prepare myself to be of service to my community, state and nation.

General Knowledge
- CAP was founded on: 1 December 1941
- CAP was transferred from the Office of Civilian Defense to the War Department by President Roosevelt on 29 April 1943
- CAP was incorporated by Congress, and stated to be solely of a benevolent character, on 1 July 1946, as specified in Public Law 476
- The U.S. Air Force was created on 18 September 1947
- CAP became its auxiliary on 26 May 1948, as specified in Public Law 557
- CAP’s first National Commander was: Maj. Gen. John F. Curry, USAAC
- CAP’s founder was: The Honorable Gill Robb Wilson
- National Headquarters is located at Maxwell AFB in Alabama
